High School Freshmen

In the freshman year, full-fledged teenagers begin the four year long transition toward adulthood. As such, the consequences of their choices can materially impact the rest of their lives in ways they may never realize. Prudent families seek expert counsel to minimize the risk of strategic missteps during high school.

Educators by temperament and training, we have custom designed retainer offerings especially for freshman families just starting their search for value in higher education.

Two strategically timed meetings, one in the fall semester and one in spring semester, for families to understand more about the ever-changing college admissions process, as well as define a strategically important four year educational plan.

In the fall meeting, CMC advisors will counsel families about effectively aligning extracurricular activities with inherent ability as well as any standardized college testing requirements, possibly including the October PSAT and how to manage more rigorous high school courses.

In the spring meeting, CMC experts will advise families about sophomore year course selection, especially in relation to more advanced classes in the junior and senior years, planning for summer activities, as well as decoding Fall PSAT scores, especially in the context of widespread test-optional/test-blind admissions policies.

As a bonus, CMC’s advisors will be available by phone, text, and email throughout the school year to advise about college admissions. Additionally, families will receive FYI, CMC’s proprietary email alerts with timely tips and news about education and college admissions.

One strategically timed 90 minute advisory, typically in the spring of freshman year, when CMC consultants will counsel families about sophomore class schedules, as well as forecasting advanced junior and senior year courses, summer and other extracurricular activities, as well as address any questions about the workings of the modern-day high school.

CMC’s advisors will be available by phone, text, and email for both parents and students throughout the school year to answer questions about high school and college admissions.  Plus, families will receive FYI, a quarterly newsletter with tips and news about educational trends and the college admissions process.

*The FYI Educational News + Client Counsel can be purchased in conjunction with the Strategic College Admissions & Educational Advising or as a stand-alone retainer.

We offer an advising support retainer for students to learn how to manage the work of school.

To achieve in school, students need to complete numerous, and sometimes extensive assignments, often simultaneously as well as comprehend complex subject matter, all while maintaining extracurricular commitments. Yet, parents and students often misinterpret lower-than-expected grades as only a lack of comprehension, often hiring tutors for remediation, yet may not address any lack of management skill

To compound any difficulties, high school teachers rarely explicitly teach students how to learn, instead expect that teens will learn to or already know how to manage their workload.

Additionally, teens, typically asserting their own agency, may not readily seek or implement their parents’ advice, and conversely, parents want their teens to be self-sufficient so may be reluctant to intervene.

When families retain Creative Marbles’ objective, expert guides:

√ Parents and students gain on-demand access to advisors, as well as timely, forward-looking guidance, tailored to each family’s specific educational needs.

√ Parents and students learn how to transform partnerships with teacher(s) to best support their students’ academic efforts.

√ Students learn how to manage an increasingly digitalized educational process, as well as on-going homework assignments to improve their management skills.

√ Students gain a sounding board to better direct their learning process to gain greater confidence in one’s inherent ability.

To write, to express, is essential for beings to thrive, not just survive. Although in school they teach many ideas and skills, writing is seldom one of them. Many students write to survive academically, seeking to emulate the teacher's voice in order to meet the standards necessary to achieve the desperately sought after grade

Many students, although they learn to play the academic grade game, often lose their unique writing voice in the process and by default, the ability to seek truth and understanding. Some students unable to write in their authentic voice begin to suffer academically, becoming even more misunderstood as a result.

We have been teaching writing and playing the role of editors for over twenty years and can help any aged student improve their written communication not only for academic assignments, creative writing, college or graduate school applications, but also so they can (re)discover their genuine sense of self, the internal compass that guides us all.

We teach students the magic of the writing process which they can adapt to any type of writing they choose or are assigned, and through guided practice, learn how to format their writing in order to effectively convey their ideas.

Additionally, parents gain detailed and expert educational insight about their student’s written communication, as well as recommendations to support their student in regaining confidence in their writing ability.

To write is a gift that should not be wasted, set aside because tedium inherent in academia has consumed the student’s willingness to express their most intimate thoughts, feelings and desires, secrets of the soul essential to be exposed so as to guide their choices, enrich their understanding of the world, in the quest for peace of mind they were born to find.
